Westchester is fortunate to have teachers with a wide variety of backgrounds and experience. They are dedicated to helping your child reach his or her full potential. Our teachers fall into three main groups: Classroom, Special area and Resource teachers.
Classroom teachers teach the core subjects of math, reading, social studies, science and health at each grade. Depending on the grade level, students may either stay with one homeroom teacher all day or work with different teachers on their grade level. Regardless of whether you child switches his or her homeroom teacher is the teacher your child sees to welcome them to school and send them home at the end of the day.
Special area teachers teach special subject area classes: art, vocal music, instrumental music, physical education and library. These teachers see students periodically throughout the week.
Resource teachers specialize in a particular area of instruction and support students in the classroom and in small groups. This group includes the reading specialist, special educators, the guidance counselor and the speech language pathologist.
